PRP therapy is used in hair restoration for natural looking results. With a thin needle, your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the scalp. Formation of PRP is simple, painless, and suitably done at clinic visit. The entire process of drawing blood to solution preparation only takes approximately 30-35 minutes. A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, just like a routine blood test. Once the blood is drawn it is then placed into a centrifuge. The centrifuge is a machine that spins the blood at high speeds in order to separate the blood into red blood cells and concentrated platelets. Once the blood is separated the red blood cells are discarded, and we are left with concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) which is ready to be used in hair loss treatment process and this amount (3-10 cc) is injected into the treatment area of scalp.
The injection process does not take more than an hour, which includes the creation of the PRP. PRP injections are not painful. There is sometimes a small amount of pain after the procedure; however this does not last more than a few days.
Anyone experiencing hair loss is essentially a good candidate for PRP treatments, but those with early hair loss tend to respond best. "PRP is best used for patients with androgenic alopecia, which is a genetically determined type of hair thinning that typically occurs along the top of the head.
